While I was definitely in the content block camp for a while, I have found that Advanced Custom Fields is actually an excellent way to build a very easy to edit CMS.

It's worth checking out for sure as it gives ultimate flexibility. That being said a simple content block system could be useful as a core feature but it seems to be not as crucial anymore.

Well 3ring is right this should be a core functionality of Wordpress CMS. Just few days back i was creating blocks, although there is plugin available but what will happen if the developer stops its further development, so there is lot of risk involved. To me dividing in blocks is very basic function which is available in most CMS out there.I think wordpress should comeup with this new feature soon.

I agree Multiple Content Blocks should be a core functionality.

I only use WP for CMS projects (as more and more people are), and I build dozens of sites per year. I choose to use WP because it seems to be the most extensible and offers many plugins which get me the functionality I need - except for the 'Multiple Content Blocks' plugin, which fails regularly with new WP updates. I have clients who now cannot edit their site. Not good - my clients don't care if it's a plugin, they see WORDPRESS as the problem.

Others here have suggested that one content block is enough - but maybe most people who only use one content block ONLY do so because that's all they have to work with. If they new it were a core functionality they would use it (them) more often.

It just makes building a NORMAL (non-blog) website so much easier. Not many REAL websites follow the 'one content block is enough' thought process...

Sorry to be the voice of disagreement but I'm completely amazed that "multiple content blocks / areas" is considered plugin territory. Don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE fan of WP -- I hate when I have to work with another CMS. However, every other CMS I've worked with had built in support for content blocks. Even RadiantCMS, the leanest CMS I know has it!

Yes, WP has great features like widgets, custom fields, custom post types, but really often I think peole need a quick and easy way to have unique content blocks that can be wrapped in a div or something for easy CSS styling.

I think the fact when you search for WP and content block and find a plethora of different methods, hacks, and plugins to try and make this happen show the importance of it. My 2c anyway...

Ipstenu- I agree. My thoughts were that if there is a need for this plugin and no one has built it yet, maybe that's an opportunity for someone who wants to build/sell/maintain this as a premium plugin. I'm saying I think the WP user base would be interested in that.

I agree that a plugin being premium doesn't really say anything about the quality of the plugin, though.

Ethan - Doesn't matter if it's a pay-for plugin or a free one. Premium's got nothing to do with how good a plugin is.

I agree with those that say this is plugin territory, but I wish there was a good updated plugin that was available.

Perhaps it would be best to say, this is PREMIUM plugin territory?

Agree with mikedev that WordPress as a CMS needs built in multiple content blocks to compete with other CMSs.

One of the plugins I've found very helpful is "Advanced Custom Fields" its similar to the plugin "multiple content blocks" but with WAY more customization.

I don't think this should be plugin land. WordPress is not just a blogging platform anymore. I'ts a CMS. To be a real CMS it needs multiple content blocks.

I don't think it would be confusing to the end user because multiple content blocks would only appear on the edit page when a custom template defines them.
