I was playing around with speech recognition software a few weeks ago both on a Windows 7 and a Ubuntu 11.04 machine. While there's a great potential in being able to simply speak to your computer, I honestly don't think the technology is quite ready yet. From a usability perspective it seems to me one will be way more productive with a good ol' mouse and keyboard than with a mic. Having to speak a bit slower than normal, waiting for the computer to react (there's a noticeable delay), and dealing with formatting and fixing mistakes accumulates, at least to me, to a significant usability obstacle instead of being an improvement. I certainly see a lot of potential in speech recognition and hope we'll one day get there, but the technology is definitely not ready for prime time yet.

All that being said, I think speech input in WP will hardly be useful (usability and productivity-wise) to most users.

Chrome 11 now supports HTML5 Speech Input
x-webkit-speech
. I'm assuming the other browsers will support this soon too.

I think having speech recognition capabilities in the new page/post pages would help a lot of people.
