Please add this as fundamental capability to ensure compatibility with all future releases. Furthermore, it would be great if two additional capabilities were included:
(1) Automatic link update to the original image if the image is moved between folders ( perhaps to an archive folder, for example ); and
(2) Automatic addition to the media gallery upon an ftp upload to specific folders.

Although "add to server" does #2, it is strictly a manual procedure right now. If you wanted to snap pics from a webcam and upload to show, for example, the weather outside, it would be helpful if WP had the ability to support making the picture available in an automated fashion.

Maybe this has been proposed before but here it goes:

Why not have the same 'quick edit' pop-open feature for media items? It takes extra time to go through each media item with at least 2 page refreshes to see if it needs a title, a caption, or an alt attribute. If this could be done with 'quick edit' it would be so much faster! If it contained the CSS settings even better.

I would also like to have "Alternative title" or just "alt" as a screen options field choice when viewing media items list.

I love NextGen and, in the past, installed it by default on every site I developed. The problem I encountered was cross-browser support for slideshows and other addons.

More recently, I do not deploy NextGen unless the site is oriented toward gallery displays. Instead, I use plugins like Portfolio Slideshow that use a post's attached images.

I refer to my previous post regarding the use of Add From Server, which maintains a directory tree within the Media Library. This means that you can choose the correct solution for the needs of your website.

If a website is heavy on gallery displays, then use NextGen.

If your site is light on gallerys, upload to subdirectories of the Media Library and then Add from Server.

Some plugins are really good and well designed, but the gap Nextgen filled was a simple administration system at the back end which can also handle multiple galleries.

While a plug-in might work for now, there are limitations (see previous postings). Nevertheless, it does seem to be the best solution for now.
